Fully Integrated Storage Solution Will Provide Backup Power During Grid Outages
As energy storage becomes increasingly important, SMA is continuing to invest in its offerings and is now delivering the Sunny Boy Storage-US inverter and Automatic Backup Unit. While other manufacturers offer a simple transfer switch and a number of separate components that must be purchased, SMA provides a complete solution with all parts integrated into one fully automated backup solution.

The highly integrated Automatic Backup Unit consists of several components. The first is a 200 Amp rated contactor, which automatically disconnects the home energy system from grid power during a power outage. It then automatically reconnects the home energy system to the grid once it is safe to do so. Next, an autotransformer will balance up to 5 kVA of imbalance across phases, reducing the potential for system interruption during backup mode operation due to imbalanced loads within the home. The solution also includes built-in energy consumption metering with pre-installed current transformers, which will eliminate the need for additional hardware and labor. Two 50 Amp breakers are included for landing PV and energy storage inverter output, which also reduces hardware needs. Finally, the Automatic Backup Unit will feature an SMA backup controller, which manages and stabilizes the microgrid by monitoring solar generation, load consumption and battery state-of-charge.
SMA also offers a solution for backing up lighter household loads, which does not require the Automatic Backup Unit or any additional hardware. SMA’s Backup Lite is a manual transfer switch that can be configured to deliver up to 2,000 watts of continuous power during the day or night, offering homeowners a cost-effective solution and peace of mind in the event of a grid outage.
Exchanges or Returns
Please contact us before returning or exchanging an item to receive a return authorization (RA). Items returned to us without receiving a return authorization will be returned to you at your expense. We accept exchanges and returns for unopened items or damaged/defective products within 30 days of receipt of shipment.  A 20% restocking fee may apply to multiple quantity returns or large ticket items. A 20% restocking fee
will
apply for all products that ship freight. Exchanges and returns are not accepted after 30 days of receipt of shipment.
Unopened Products
To make an exchange or return for an unopened product, please contact us and obtain a Return Authorization. If the exchanged or returned product is unopened with all original accessories, manuals, packaging, and/or shrink wrap, you will be responsible for return shipping.  If the product was sold with free shipping, shipping charges to deliver the item will be deducted from the refund amount.  A refund to your method of payment will be processed within one week of receiving an authorized return minus any applicable shipping charges.
Damaged/Defective Products
To make an exchange or return for a damaged/defective product, please contact us and obtain a Return Authorization. If the product is returned for being damaged/defective, we will provide a return shipping label for domestic shipping costs.  If we test and confirm the product is damaged/defective and receive the product along with all original accessories, manuals, and packing, we will provide a refund for the purchase price of the product, plus domestic shipping charges, if any, assessed at the time of purchase. International shipping charges, if any, will not be reimbursed.  A refund to your method of payment will be processed within one week of receiving an authorized return. If we test and confirm the product is in full working order, a refund will not be provided and you will be responsible for providing a return shipping label to have the product returned to you.
